Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, called for the arrest and prosecution of those promoting threats against Igbos in Lagos. Social media platforms have seen a surge in hashtags urging Igbos to leave Lagos and other South-West states.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, condemned these ultimatums, describing them as deeply troubling. He emphasized the need for immediate investigation and legal action against those responsible for this dangerous agenda to deter others from threatening national security and unity.
“I have read deeply disturbing genocidal threats on X against the Igbo community, calling for their relocation. Such rhetoric threatens our unity and violates our Constitution, which guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country. Those in authority must demonstrate leadership and urgently speak out against such divisive rhetoric,” Obi stated. https://x.com/PeterObi/status/1819259779203674240
He urged all Nigerians to unite against divisive language and promote unity, tolerance, and understanding, emphasizing that the nation’s future depends on the ability to live and work together harmoniously. Obi also called on the government and security agencies to act swiftly to protect the fundamental right of every Nigerian to live without fear of discrimination or persecution, warning against allowing current challenges to create divisions.
